As a method of advertising and in order to boost sales in a soft economy, Gymboree used emails to promote new sales and new clothing lines. Working with a team of designers and copywriters, emails would be created and coded for 5 different brands. Merchants would also provide input as to which products to feature and ensure stock was available.

Mobile site launch. 2010.

Mobile is the next frontier! The west elm mobile site was launched in collaboration with several teams, including user experience, IT and variety of other teams. My role was to translate the full west elm site into a mobile experience that was in-line with the other Williams-Sonoma, Inc. brands. From here, I would create templates that would be used to dictate style for every mobile page.

To visit west elm’s mobile site, click here or navigate to westelm.com on your mobile device.

Flash assets. 2009-2011.

To raise attention to more content in a finite space, west elm uses flash to provide the visitor with more information. In addition to more content, flash was seen as a way to actively engage customers in a market where competition for dollars is fierce. Researching and incorporating UX/UI practices was a major objective in order to keep customers engaged. All assets build using ActionScript 2.0.

Website Redesign. 2010.

In 2010, the west elm brand was heading in a new direction. Instead of maintaining the heavily modern, set-up and seemingly unordinarily clean brand, the brand moved towards a more editorial and hand-done look, while maintaining the modern feel. This was reflected in a shift in photography, design elements and page layouts. A before and after can be seen in the two screenshots shown above.

Website redesign. 2008.

Williams-Sonoma’s site had not been updated since it’s inception in 1999. The site was overdue for a redesign. Working with an outside vendor who provided high-level comps of each page, we translated those pages to layouts that would work with the Williams-Sonoma backend. In the end, the site had a refreshed looked that still tied back to the strong brand identity. Before (on right) and after (on left) shown above.
